Summary

 

A Personal Care Assistant is a Paraprofessional whose role is to increase the quality of education by assisting a student(s) with instructional and non-instructional activities.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Demonstrates an understanding of the job tasks.

Demonstrates and models effective teaching and assessment strategies and techniques.

Demonstrates the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication and to react effectively with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community.

 

Education and/or Experience

 

High School Diploma is required.

Associate’s Degree in Child Development or related field or successfully passing the ParaPro Assessment.

Experience working with children with special needs and in an educational setting is preferred.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or public.

 

Reasoning/Other Abilities

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with and without variables.

 

Physical Demands

Work involves limited physical tasks and may involve infrequent operation of office equipment.  Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in a classroom environment.
