***This position is a 10 month (200 day contract) position.***
Summary
Works under the direction of the Principal providing direct literacy instruction to students and as a literacy leader implementing a comprehensive literacy program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Collaborate with educators and school administrators to identify challenges with students or curriculum, set goals, and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction
- Devise individual accelerated literacy plans with teachers and parents for students identified by state criteria.
- Meets and instructs the student(s) for in-person instruction in the locations and the time designated.
- Develops a plan for intervention of instruction.
- Diagnoses and identifies students with deficiencies in Language Arts.
- Models instructional strategies and best practices for teachers.
- Plans and implements motivational programs to promote reading.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Ability to develop working relationships with students, parents and professional colleagues within the school division and within the community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Technology skills including electronic communication and ability to use multiple types of software critical to job performance.
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience
- Bachelor’s Degree minimum; Reading Specialist endorsement is strongly preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or public.
Reasoning/Other Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Physical Demands
Work involves operation of office equipment and limited physical tasks. Above-average amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting in a classroom environment.
