ACPS is currently seeking applicants for the position of Maintenance Personnel with experience in the areas of Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC preferred.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but not limited to: 

 

  • Perform the full range of work involved in the repair, maintenance, installation and service of the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, BAS controls and related equipment.
  • Diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions with all the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, BAS controls and related equipment. 
  • Maintain records of repairs, maintenance and service of all the refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, BAS controls and related equipment.
  • Maintain records of Refrigerant recovery, usage and leak rate on all refrigeration equipment.
  • Install, replace, maintain, repair, diagnose and service pneumatic, electronic and electric control systems and related equipment.
  • Establish and carry out appropriate safe practices at job sites.
  • Prepare and assign work orders for each job indicating site, nature of job and completion date of work.
  • Compile a list of materials and supplies needed for each job.
  • Provide emergency services in the overall area of maintenance as needed.
  • Conform to all laws, policies and practices of safety in the workplace.
  • Provide for cleanliness in the assigned work area.
  • Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
  • Establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.
  • Read blueprints.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, fixtures, wiring, and similar electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the school division.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the superintendent, or designee.

 

Qualifications

 

Must hold a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Valid electrician’s license preferred.

Effective communication skills and ability to work with a variety of school personnel as well as the general public.

Possesses effective management and leadership skills and demonstrates initiative. 

Maintenance experience preferred

HVAC Journeyman’s Certificate preferred

Skilled in the use of tools and related equipment needed to perform repair, service and diagnoses of HVAC equipment.

Thorough knowledge of applicable HVAC codes.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.

Some background in plumbing, electrical and sheet metal work.

 

 

Education and/or Experience

 

High school diploma or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or public.

 

Reasoning/Other Abilities

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. 

 

Physical Demands

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear and taste or smell.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
